Underground

The two new games, Diamond and Pearl, brought along with them a myriad of new features. One of the most prominent of these features throughout the game would be the Sinnoh Underground.

The Sinnoh underground itself has a number of functions and minigames. Many of these involve spheres and treasures but not all.

Access

To gain access to the Underground you must first reach Eterna city. Which has been marked on the map. Once there just walk to the house right beside the Pokémon Center. Talk to the old man standing at the center of the house and talk to him, he will give you the Explorer Kit which allows you too go underground.

Now that you have the kit you must go to the key items location in your bag and select it to go underground. Now that you are Underground the things you can do are:

Excavation

To excavate or dig up items you have to first look at the top screen of your DS. It will have some shiny golden sparkles on it and your current area will be shown by a red spot, to excavate you must reach the shiny area and then tap your stylus on the bottom screen. If there are any shining diamond’s on the screen then go up to them and press A. This will bring you into the Excavation mini-game. If this is your first time excavating the Underground man will have left a note in the Explorer Kit explaining the instructions.

You must use a pick axe and hammer to break the rocks and find the items underneath; most of them are spheres though and be careful because your sphere bag can become full! You can trade spheres for traps from the hikers found Underground. You can also find fossils, first you will find only Skull fossils if you are playing Pokémon Diamond or Armor fossils if you are playing Pokémon Pearl.

After you receive the National Dex you can dig up any other fossil except for the one that is not your game’s exclusive. e.g. If you are playing Pokémon Diamond(where you can not find Armor fossils) and you obtain the National Dex you can obtain every other fossil except Pearl’s fossil, the Armor fossil. You can also find Arceus plates but they are not worth anything until you capture Arceus. Note: Arceus is only available through Nintendo event and Action Replay.

Secret Bases

Secret Bases, the part of this guide that most of you have probably been waiting for. First you must get a Digger Drill from the Underground Man in Eterna city. You get the Drill by passing three of his tests, which are quite easy and you would have passed all of them if you got stuck in the underground for awhile.

Once you have your base you can decorate it with items you can get from the hikers and from Mr. E Goods tasks. There is another mini-game you can play with your secret base as well. If you link-up with your friend and their go to their Secret Base and steal their flag and run back to your base and place it on the computer then you can get upgrades depending on how many flags you have stolen.

Thank you for reading through this guide of the Underground and I hope it has helped you learn a bit more about the wonders of Pokémon.
