.:. Modern Warfare 2 Review .:.
Welcome to my review of Modern Warfare 2! The most highly-anticipated game of many, many years... all of that hype... IS DESERVED!!! Time to get this review started!
Graphics
I usually completely discard graphics on how I rate a game, unless they are absolutely terrible! This game, however, has such great graphics that I can't go without at least mentioning them! I noticed what seemed like a small difference when I first started playing this game... however when I decided to go back and play Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 1 for a while, I noticed that Modern Warfare 2's were much better!
Gameplay
However you look at it, this is just more of the same gameplay that we see in every Call of Duty game! It sucks!... Yes, I was joking! The gameplay may just be more of the same, but it is great, and is still just awesome! This is, of course, a First Person Shooter game and it takes place in modern day (That is kind of obvious because of the title of the game). Most Call of Duty games take place in World War 2, which limits the weapons and equipment you can use. In this game, you can use all of the equipment the military has today (Okay, not all of it, but most of it)! You can also use things such as grenades, flash bangs, smoke grenades, semtex (sticky explosives), throwing knives, and much more! Oh, yeah! I can't forget this game's amazing music! It always fits the feel of the area you are in. or the feeling the developers know you are going to have!
Multiplayer
This is the game mode where you can play with or against your friends and/or people anywhere on the world! The multiplayer of this game is so addicting! I have had the game for about 5 days now and I was already addicted after about 3 Team Deathmatches! Of course, you can do split-screen multiplayer with your friends at the same place, but the real multiplayer experience is in the online! There are game modes including Team Deathmatch, Free-For-All, Capture The Flag, Hardcore Headquarters, Cage Match, and more! They also added a third-person shooter mode to it where you can experience everything online through a third-person perspective! Although this may not be as fun as the first person shooter mode, it is still pretty fun! Personally, I usually play Team Deathmatch and not much else! However, most modes are really fun!
There are also perks that you can unlock and use that have effects such as Marathon, which can let you sprint for an unlimited amount of time, which can be really helpful for run-and-gunners. The real thing that sets this mode away from the rest of the Call of Duty games is the customizable kill-streaks! There are so many to pick from and you can only set 3 as the ones you can actually use on the battle field. This really is strategic when you are playing online! The biggest complaint I have with the online is CAMPERS!!! Campers are people who just sit in one spot and don't move. They just wait for someone to walk by and shoot! They usually use a silencer, as well, so that makes it so you can't even tell where they are on your UAV radar!
There is always some reward for you around the corner! You get points for almost everything you do! Extra for head shots, pay backs, avenging your team-mates, saving one of your team-mates, and more! A real game-turner for defensive players is the Riot Shield! It is bullet-resistant, so it is a real pain in the neck for the players on the other team! It replaces your primary weapon, but that is no big deal! Because you have a secondary weapon, which can be shotguns, machine pistols, pistols, and rocket launchers! However, these secondary weapons have little amount of ammo, so you have to use it wisely! Here is a tip from me... if you are going to use the Riot Shield, use a shotgun, the best one in my opinion, is the AA-12 shotgun. The reason that I like it is the fact that it is FULLY AUTOMATIC!!! Yes, a fully automatic shotgun! You may think this shotgun will shoot rounds slowly, but it is almost as fast as some assault rifles (Of course it is faster that the single-shot assault rifles)!
Story
Note that the story of this game is very short! If you are a seasoned first person shooter gamer, then you will probably breeze through the story in anywhere from 5-6 hours! However, the story is amazing with a few plot twists, and some "Oh My God" moments for Modern Warfare 1 players! The story takes place 5 years after the first Modern Warfare... In the last game, you killed Imhran Zakhaev, a Russian who likes to fire nuclear bombs... You think you ended the war, but you are wrong... The character you played as in the last game, Soap Mactavish, is now the captain of your team and you are a Sargent under his command, "Roach". Makarov is a terrorist who kills for money. You main objective is to kill him. ***DO NOT READ THE REST OF THE STORY SECTION OF THIS REVIEW IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO READ ABOUT SPOILERS!!!*** One thing leads to another and you actually end up working for Makarov and you commit an act of terrorism where you walk about an airport killing civilians! This scene is disturbing and can be skipped. The worst part about this scene is the fact that you can't run at all! You have to walk and watch the whole act of terrorism go down! Honestly, I have played too much Grand Theft Auto for this to really disturb me, so not that big of a deal to me.
Special Ops
Special Ops is a new mode to this game... the rest of the Call of Duty series didn't have it! It is a mode with no story, no cinematic, just go straight into a very short mission and play it. You can earn up to 3 stars on each of these missions. Sometimes, the amount of stars you get depends on the difficulty level you are on, other times, it is how fast you did something. It is really designed to where you and a friend can play together and have a great time, but most of the missions can be played solo. I really recommend a friend to play with you on these! The Special Ops missions are based on both locations from Modern Warfare 2, as well as some locations from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 1! So, if you played the original Modern Warfare, this may give you some good... or bad memories!
Conclusion
This game is overall a great game! It has amazing online gameplay, special ops is great (especially with a friend to play it with), and the single player campaign is really short, it has an awesome story to it, especially if you played Modern Warfare 1! If you are only planning on buying this game just for the story, I can't really recommend it. However, if you plan to play online and play Special Ops with a friend, I can't recommend this game more than what I am about to say:
Scores
If you are going to play the story, multiplayer, and Special Ops, I give this game a 10 out of 10!
However, if you are only going to play the story, since it is a great story, but so short, I give it 7 out of 10!
